Lady in the office didn't catch her name was really rude didn't even answer my questions wasted my time going there. Such a disappointment. Don't bother going to the IRS office in Walnut Creek. I rather just be put on hold for an hour and have my questions answered then to go all the way down to Walnut Creek and waste my time not getting my questions answered.
The office is understaffed, with only two people working. With each person taking 30 minutes or more to be serviced, this severely limits the number of taxpayers that can be assisted.
Martin did an excellent job of giving people realistic timelines and assisting people in line as much as possible. He would help people in line and hand out forms if the person could do something without having to wait. When I saw him inside, he was able to give me clear and quick answers to my questions.
The office is converting to appointment-only after July 19, 2016, so this will probably alleviate some of the problems. If you plan on coming before then, get there an hour before the office opens (8:30) if you want less than a 4-5 hour wait time. There are only 11 chairs inside, so you will be waiting to even get a number to wait inside. Otherwise you will be sitting on the floor in a small vestibule. If you are looking for a transcript, just order it online.
The people there are helpful, but the office is small and severely understaffed.
The site would receive a higher rating if it was staffed appropriately.
My wife called the IRS and was put on hold for 1 hour. When they finally answered, they suggested going to the Walnut Creek IRS Office for assistance with an issue. My wife dutifully went to the Walnut Creek IRS office. The IRS agent took a 2 second look at her documentation and told my wife to just "pay your Uncle Sam." She refused and asked them to review her submissions. The agent then told her to "come back at 4:30." My wife asked why. The agent said, "because we close then." Then he told her that the IRS office does not review submissions such as hers (which was not true). These people are horrible. This office should be closed.
